Writing to Pay Bills

This is pretty different from writing for fun. Mainly because it takes up most of the day. I've got about 10 hours of work ahead of me (at least), so no big drawn out chatty post today.

All my articles have been accepted without revisions, so far. Demand Studios tells me there's nothing for me with them. I'm not sure if that means my writing sucks but the buyers at TB don't care, or DS is just flooded with "real" writers with "real" experience...

Oh well, back to work.

  1. I just started writing for TB a couple days ago. Do you have a method for research without copying someone else's material?

  2. I try to take assignments that have some kind of .gov site attached, use that for the research. If I can't find something like that, I'll check and see if there's any real difference between the info on the different sites- it's usually all the same stuff- and just rewrite the information in my own way. Not the best, but not criminal, at least.

I also try to take articles where I'm already familiar with the information, or where I'll be able to do more than one with the same sources. Most of it just ends up in article directories or going through an article spinner, anyway.

  3. How many assignments are you able to do a day? I am a stay at home mom and I hope to make $400-$600 a month doing this. It is hard to stay focused though.

  4. I'm getting faster, actually. The first couple took forever- like an hour each. Now what limits me is motivation. I can write a $3 piece in about 15 or 20 minutes, so working 6 or 8 hours a day I *could* get 18 to 32 done, easily. But I wander off and do other stuff, so the most I've really managed so far is 10. Fixing that today.

For staying focused and cutting down my "writing" time I use a site I found one NaNoWriMo. It's called "write or die", and should be the first result for that search at google. Basically, you put in your goal, choose a level of evil, a level of strictness, and hit go. Then you type until you meet your goal. If you stop it either plays a really really annoying sound track (crying baby, off key singing, violin practice) or starts un-writing what you've already got. Well, ok, easy mode just pops up a box telling you to write, but the other two are great. It's magic.

  5. Just curious, could you live with your mom for awhile to get ahead? I am sure the dog would love to have you ;-)

Also, through the various writing you do are you able to meet that goal of $600ish?

  6. Mom has a tiny apartment. With her, the step-Dad, and the dog, there's really not enough room. The dog would, of course, be thrilled but it isn't going to happen.

With the writing, so long as I don't freak out and stop, $700 or so is probably closer to what I'll do this month. If I can get into a routine it should go up- figure 10 cheapies at textbroker a day is $20 or 30. Haven't sold anything at constant content yet, still working on my first piece. Hopefully that'll eventually take over from TB- I'd rather make $10 and hour writing 200 words than 1000+.

  7. I want TB to work but it is hard to stay focused, I only did one $4 piece today. OOPS. I have 2 kids though so it's hard to focus, plus I actually need to pay attention to them(the poor things). If I could actually get a schedule going and get faster I might be able to stick with it. Good Luck, I enjoy reading your 2 blogs.
